I just wanted to take a moment and share some information about a special event that many may not even know took place. Sara “Kid” Overal and a team from North
Texas consisting of: Debbie, Michael, and Justin Elliott, Mark and Sue James, Jeff and Anita Wike, Brenda and CJ Rowell, Terry and Beth Burgess, and
Michelle Yaw recently helped the town of Leakey, Texas, host a weekend retreat for Gold Star Parents.
Dallas and Bradley Hart and the citizens of Leakey contacted Sara about helping them host an event to support the military, wounded warriors, etc. During discussions the idea of a retreat for Gold Star parents came up and the planning was on.
This was a first-time event of its kind and thanks to everyone involved in putting on; we hope it will be a yearly event. The citizens of Leakey were gracious hosts and went above and beyond to make the retreat a success. Gold Star parents were treated to free lodging, food, and activities. I’ve cut
and pasted the highlights from Sara’s after-action report below:
We were introduced in front of the citizens of the City of Leakey at a youth basketball game during half-time. The PGR filed into the gymnasium single-file and stood tall and silent along the walls of the gym. Terry Burgess addressed the crowd about what a GS parent is and the role of the PGR. With genuine appreciation, the basketball players shook each of our hands. The citizens stood the entire time we were in the gym and many people cried as they shook each of our hands as we left.
We had an impromptu parade on Main Street. A GS father, who is a resident of Leakey, brought a deuce-and-a-half red truck with hay bales. The GS parents loaded onto the truck and Jeff
and Anita and myself who had PGR magnets and flags provided additional parade escort transportation. We stopped at the local Harley Davidson shop, "The Motorcycle Stop" where they had refreshments waiting for us. Our GS parents were provided a gorgeous view and they sat and had fellowship on their giant patio area. The owners also provided nice gifts for our raffles.
Terry and Beth Burgess hosted a screening of The Hornet's Nest (based on their son Bryan and his fellow soldiers who were killed-in-action. The event was held in one of the larger cabins and the Burgesses provided question-and-answer time afterward.
Additional activities included prayer, open-mic, raffles, continuous acoustical live music by a friend of the Harts and good folks cooking and cleaning continuously. It had the feel of being at home together and grandma and the ladies were always preparing supper. This relaxed, non-scripted atmosphere was indeed perfect.
Our last event was attending church together at the Frio Canyon Baptist Church. It was wonderful. The church was packed by residents who wished to worship with the GS parents and to support the retreat. Un-rehearsed and dressed in PGR attire, Justin Elliott addressed the entire church about forgiveness and purpose. He used his unique situation of being blind from a shooting on the highway as his topic-base. There was resounding appreciation from the guests (GS parents and locals). After church, the congregation hosted us at a wonderful meal in the main hall. We ate together and shared fellowship. I just received a letter from Brother Michael Howard and the church thanking us for accepting their invitation.
Great Job North Texas PGR HOTH Team!

North Texas
Help
On
The
Homefront (HOTH)
Vision Explained
Posted: 01/16/2016
|
Recently it was
suggested to explain to everyone what I had in mind with regards to the
North Texas HOTH mission/vision. A good idea, so here goes.
Let me start with what I found out about what HOTH
really is. The National HOTH mission states it is the intention of
the Patriot Guard Riders to assist the Veteran community by taking a
proactive role in the reintegration of our wounded Veterans into the
societies by seeking to attain the following goals:
-
Establish a strong presence and mentoring program on Brooke Army Medical
Center, Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Bethesda Naval Hospital, and
other major medical facilities, and overseas if possible.
-
Work diligently towards the recommendations set forth by medical
personnel regarding our involvement with wounded Veterans.
-
Establish a support network for catastrophically wounded Veterans who
are reentering their communities. This is a continuation of the
inpatient program.
-
To develop a National plan to be carried out on the state level for an
active and frequent PGR presence in all of the VA hospitals wherever
they may be.
-
Visitation of Military retirement homes and villages.
As you can read,
HOTH’s mission is for PGR members to support and assist in the
reintegration of returning wound military through the major medical
facilities throughout the entire recovery and reintegration process.
As those facilities are only a few and located in just a few regions,
National recognizes this and further gives the states the freedom to
define their own HOTH activities as well. This explains why there
are as many different ideas on HOTH as there are PGR regions.
This brings us to my vision and interpretation.
North Texas PGR is a busy region with a high mission load. Adding more
missions only spreads us thinner and impacts our ability to execute the
primary mission. I recognize that HOTH activities are a morale
boost and give us a chance to do something different. I also
recognize that a HOTH program has “lived and died” before in North
Texas. My idea is to not take on more than we can handle and thus
sustain HOTH in North Texas. Therefore, the direction that I have
charged our HOTH Coordinator and her team to take is two-fold.
-
The primary HOTH focus is to organize and/or participate in activities
where members can provide hands-on help, VA and retirement home visits,
volunteer to help a day with Habitat for Humanity or other home repair
for a vet or military family, volunteer to assist the VA outreach
program to aid homeless vets, etc. The type activities where we
actually get involved and help. Folks show up individually or as a
group and volunteer to help. No Flag Lines, procession, or handing
out cash. This is what I hope our HOTH team will accomplish.
-
The second part is
less obvious to the membership. Today there are a multitude of
“help” organizations out there. Who they are, who they help, what
they do, etc. is not widely known by all. We sometimes get
requests that simply do not fit our mission or are beyond our means and
have to decline or reply as such. I would like HOTH to be able to
help by providing the requester with a possible connection to an
organization that maybe could help them. I am charging the HOTH
Coordinator to become “versed” in all these other organizations and
understand what they do and who for. HOTH will not
mediate, advocate, counsel, etc., but will simply be armed with a
possible lead to a possible solution and refer the person to that lead;
nothing more. This will allow us to maybe help locate a solution
instead of replying it’s not our mission or we can’t help
Well I hope this
explains things a bit for everyone. We will still have non-funeral
missions, but I hesitate calling the HOTH missions as they don’t fit
what we hope to accomplish s stated. I do try to limit those as
well to avoid spreading our resources too thin. If you have ideas
or wished to be involved contact Sara Overal our HOTH Coordinator at
hoth@ntxpgr.org

Family Found For SSgt Gregory Reese Posted: 11/06/2015
|
Gary [Dunn] and I [Randy Smith] wish to thank everyone who
was able to attend April 30th, 2015, in Committal Shelter C at DFW National Cemetery. The North Texas Patriot Guard Riders served SSgt Gregory Reese at his interment service as his family and
as pall bearers. SSgt Reese passed away without family or friends present, as none could be found at that time. On 19 October 2015, Ms. Regina Reese contacted Ride Captain Darl Easton via email. She stated that she was the ex-wife of SSgt Reese, and had found his final itinerary write up while doing a search on-line for Gregory. She also requested any information Darl could supply concerning the passing of SSgt Reese. Knowing that Randy Smith keeps the flags of the
Veterans we stand as family for, Darl inquired about this flag and was informed that we did have it still. After some back and forth communications, Deputy State Captain Bryan Read granted permission to contact Ms. Reese on Oct 20, 2015. On Oct 21st, Randy was given a phone number to contact Ms. Reese through an email contact he had with her. Finally, contact by phone was made. Through this conversation it was learned that SSgt Reese was an only child, and that his only blood relatives had passed away;
his mother in 2003, and aunt in 2009. SSgt Reese had suffered a stroke in 2013, and his step-father (John or James Johnson) had contacted Ms. Reese, who stayed with Gregory through his hospital stay and rehabilitation. In many attempts since his rehab, Ms. Reese had attempted to contact Gregory’s step-father, but he never answered or returned her telephone calls. It was also learned that Gregory had a step-sister nicknamed Cece. Attempts to locate these two relatives proved futile. On Oct 23rd, Randy submitted these findings to Bryan, with the recommendation that we present the flag to Ms. Reese because she had said she would like to have it and to honor SSgt Reese’s memory.
On the 24th of Oct, permission was granted to present the flag to Ms. Reese. On the 28th of Oct, Darl again contacted Ms. Reese, and it was decided that the presentation would take place on 04 Nov 2015 at DFW National Cemetery. On that Wednesday, the North
Texas PGR met Ms. Reese and her friends at the visitors center and escorted them to
Committal Shelter A. The flag was presented to Tommy Brock By Linda Timmerman, and Tommy and Jammie Yaw unfolded and refolded the flag. Jammie presented the flag to Darl, and he presented it to Ms. Reese.
We then escorted her party to the graveside so Regina Reese would know where Gregory was interred. Darl then presented Ms. Reese with the North
Texas PGR certificate commemorating SSgt Gregory Reese, and the mission was concluded. Ms. Reese sent out
private mails to Darl and Randy thanking them for contacting her, and thanking all of the PGR in attendance for their honor and respect paid to SSgt Reese, both on November 4th, and for standing in as family on April 30th at the memorial service.

Brian Liberty Resigns Posted: 10/13/2015

All Riders,
Regrettably, Brian Liberty has stepped down as Assistant Deputy State Captain. Brian informed me that he has incurred some unexpected circumstances that demand his time. Unable to give North Texas PGR his full effort as a member of the leadership team, he has selflessly chosen to resign so the organization is not impacted. Brian was a valuable member of the leadership team and was key to improvements in Ride Captain governance, formation of the RC training team, and revision of the RC Manual. Please thank him for his efforts when you see him.

North Texas PGR Store Re-Opens Posted: 07/27/2015
|
Please help welcome our new primary PGR store minders. Brenda
and CJ Rowell have recently taken on a support roll for our
missions and Brenda has agreed to maintain our store and work with
me to keep it up and available to our DFW area members. As many of
you know Brenda and CJ are a team but you may find them supporting
missions and the store on their own when the other is committed to
other facets of life so look for them and say hey. They will have
the store available this coming Saturday at Brian's
Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Mission in White Settlement so
stop by and grab a pin or patch. We do have a few things to do to
get the store up to 100% but we are working on those items this
week and next. Thank you for supporting our store. As you know all
proceeds from the store sales go to our area account for
operational expenses for our North Texas region. Thank you Brenda and CJ
for stepping up again in support of the Patriot Guard Riders Of
North Texas.
In addition Garland "Papa" Raney has expressed an interest in
providing a smaller version of the store to serve our members out
east so we will be putting that together shortly so that end of
our region is served well too.

HOTH Coordinator Named Posted: 07/21/2015
|
|
Fellow Riders,
I first wish to thank the candidates that responded. I received responses from a few well qualified folks, each possessing exceptional qualities in different areas. I am pleased to announce that Sara "Kid" Overal has been offered and accepted the position of Help On The Home Front (HOTH) coordinator for the North Texas region. Sara is well qualified and eager to get busy. Sara and I will be developing the vision and roles of the HOTH program within North Texas. The HOTH program was in-place in the past, but it wasn’t sustained. For that reason, we will learn from our past and will be taking
"baby steps" in establishing the program again in North Texas. Times have changed so the new North Texas HOTH program will be a bit different than most will remember.
More to come soon!

Regional and State Changes Posted:
01/12/2015 |
|
In 2008 I was honored to stand the flag lines with the Patriot Guard Riders to honor our fallen. I have been blessed to have had the opportunity to serve as a Ride Captain, Deputy State Captain for the North Texas Region, Assistant State Captain under Teresa Galloway and two years as the Texas State Captain.
When Patriot Guard Riders step up to the next position they step up to a position of more servitude. The Riders serve for the families, the Ride Captains server the riders, the Deputy State Captains (DSC) serve the Ride Captains and the State Captains serve the DSC's.
|
As I complete my time as the Texas State Captain I am honored to be asked to serve as Regional Ride Captain for the South/Central States (TX, OK, KS, MO, AR). Effective 15 January 2015.
Bobby Stroka will be stepping from the Assistant State Captain position to Texas State Captain. Bobby is a former DSC for the S.E. Texas Region.
Mike Eubank will be stepping up to serve as the Assistant State Captain. Mike currently serves as the DSC for the East Texas Region.
I have been blessed to have had this opportunity to meet so many wonderful people who give from their hearts. Patriot Guard Riders, Military Support Teams, local and State LEO, the board of Directors for Snowball Express and Skyball, along with thousands who share in giving honors to the families of our fallen military.
To have my life touched by so many of you is a personal honor and a true blessing to my life.

2015 Leadership Changes Posted:
12/30/2014 |
As we start off a new year with new expectations and goals, we will also be welcoming a new leadership team in the North Texas Region.
Ken DuBois has decided to rejoin the ranks of Ride Captains. Most of you remember that Ken stepped up when there was a void in the Leadership team and he has performed an outstanding job. Most riders are unaware of the time, effort and pressures that are faced daily by the Deputy State Captains who serve around the State. Thank you Ken for your dedication and direction.
Bryan Read has stepped up to direct the new leadership team as the Deputy State Captain for the North Texas Region. Bryan brings with him a solid background of leadership and supervisory skills. Bryan will be assigning riders to serve in the capacity of Assistant Deputy Ride Captain for North Texas as well as other positions he feels will aid in once again "raising the bar" in North Texas.
Please join me in thanking Ken for his service as the DSC for the Patriot Guard Riders and in thanking Bryan for stepping up to continue leading the showing of honor and respect to those who defend our freedoms.
Mike Lambert
State Captain
Patriot Guard Riders of Texas=
|
To my fellow Patriot Guard Riders of North Texas and State Captain Mike Lambert, it is with extreme honor and humility that I accept the position of trust you have granted me as your Deputy State Captain for North Texas, effective January 1, 2015. First and foremost, I must thank Ken DuBois for his service as DSC and for his continued service as Ride Captain. Under Ken, the NTXPGR maintained the mission of the PGR, providing honor and respect to our Nation’s fallen and their families. In addition, providing patriotic support for many local community events, and raising the bar this year for Snowball Express, all while supporting one of the highest mission tempos in the country
|
I must be honest with everyone and say that when asked to be the DSC, I was…let’s say a little hesitant. After all, I’m junior to most of you in my time in the PGR, but some good folks, who somehow heard or just thought the idea had merit, told me that I should take the position if offered. I thought it through, discussed it with the boss (Tamara), and tried to evaluate all the pros and cons. I finally came to a conclusion. The reason I accepted is similar to the reason that I accepted the Ride Captain position when offered. I took the RC position to make sure that the fallen and their families are supported, even if it’s just a few of us and the flags. As the RC, I would ensure it happened. I took the DSC position to ensure in addition to the mission, the Riders would receive the support they need to meet the mission. No matter what, I will do my best to make it happen. Luckily for me, NTXPGR already has the best group of Riders, outstanding Support folks (to include the store, photo, and web,) and exceptional leaders in the RC group.
So who am I and what am I about. I retired from the Air Force after serving 21 years on active duty. My last duty was that of First Sgt. I am currently employed full time as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. That means I’m the guy who looks to drive waste out of processes and digs to find root causes to problems. I’ll tell you that I believe that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, but my quality experience drives me to also believe in continuous improvement. No, I’m not a Gemini. NTXPGR improves every year and with every undertaking and I wish for that to continue. As good as we are, we need to look for those areas where we can get better. I don’t promote change for the sake of change, but on the same hand we need to guard against the paradigm of “that’s the way it’s always been”. We will look to add value where we can and improve ourselves where we can, but the mission will always come first.
One of the first tasks I have is recruiting a few folks to help me. Once completed, those announcements will be made. I appreciate everyone’s support and trust. I’m glad to be associated with this great group of folks and this wonderful mission.
Bryan Read, DSC (select)
To North Texas Patriot Guard Riders, As January 1st, 2015 approaches I will be stepping down as the North Texas Deputy State Captain. I will continue to serve as a Ride Captain and provide support for our new Deputy State Captain “Bryan Read”. Standing the flag line with each of you has always been a rewarding position for me and one I will continue to serve in.
I greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve as the Deputy State Captain and thank all of you for your support, hard work and dedication as Patriot Guard Riders who Honor and Respect our Fallen American hero’s and their families. Serving as the Deputy State Captain has been a wonderful and challenging experience that I will never forget. When I accepted this position back in October 2013, I had set a few goals for myself:
- To create and post a quarterly financial report.
- Purchase and then structure a Trade Show Recruitment Booth used to bring in new PGR Riders into the ranks of the North Texas PGR
- To finalize and publish the Ride Captains Manual, which will act as a guideline line for all of our Ride Captains and Support Personnel in years to follow.
- Increase the number of Ride Captains and Support Personnel willing to serve.
- Finally, to increase the overall head count of our registered Patriot Guard Riders in North Texas.
I appreciate the trust Mike Lambert, Francis Buck Kern and Neil Raaz had in me during the past 15 months and in developing a support structure for the 2013 and 2014 Snowball Express Venues. To all of those who volunteered to support the Snowball Express venues, I thank you for your professionalism, attention to details and the love you demonstrated for our Gold Star families during their stay in Dallas/ Ft Worth. Every year the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders have raised the bar for all the activities and for helping make Snowball Express 2013 and 2014 a great success.
This could not have been done without those who choose to support all of the funeral missions that continued to come in during these Snowball Express activities. I want thank Garland Raney for serving as my Assistant and also as the Mission Dispatcher and each of you for your “Can Do Attitude” and willingness to support our military families.
I feel we have the best PGR organization in the Nation which is demonstrated by our riders who continue to provide outstanding support, dedication, sacrifice and commitment to the mission of the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas in honoring this Nations Fallen Heroes.
Please join me in Congratulating Bryan Read as the new North Texas Deputy State Captain. Bryan’s dedication and experience as a leader will help the North Texas Region to continue to improve. It is an honor to stand with each of you.
Sincerely, Ken DuBois North Texas Deputy State Captain Patriot Guard Riders

New National President and Board of Directors Posted:
11/11/2014 |
Brothers and Sisters of PGR,
I have been and am honored to have served on the PGR BoD and as President of the finest organization I have ever been associated with. However, personal matters and my health demand more of my time. As such, these demands prompted my last minute decision not to seek another term on the National PGR BoD. I believe it would be more of a disservice to PGR to continue to serve on the BoD past the end of my first term than not.
It gives me great pleasure to announce the new National President and Board of Directors. Mike “Staylow” Childree is now the President of PGR replacing me as the outgoing President. The new BoD elected Randy “Steam” Stevens to continue as VP of Captains, Robert “Bees” Butler as the new VP of Members, Shane “Desert Doc” Leiser to continue as Secretary and Lee “Pieman” Anderson to continue as Treasurer. These humble individuals have and will continue to serve our veterans and PGR well.
I want to personally thank every Flag Line PGR member, for it is you, your honor and respect, that make the PGR organization a functioning reality.

North Texas Leadership Changes Posted: 10/21/2013 |
The North Texas Region has had a change in the Leadership Team. Larry Key had served as the Deputy State Captain for the past 10 months prior to stepping down. The leadership role was filled by Floyd Kammerer on
an interim basis until a new Deputy State Captain could be appointed.
Ken Dubois, a long time Ride Captain with the North Texas Region, has accepted the positions as the new Deputy State Captain for the region. Ken assumed the role this past Saturday. He is diligently working to gather his team to assist in the management of the region.
I ask that each of you continue to support the leadership team as you have in the past as they carry the mission of the Patriot Guard Riders forward.
A team has been assigned to the Snowball Express Planning Board to assist in the effort to bring Snowball Express 2013 to the North Texas area.
Top Kammerer - venue planning
Dan Mathys - hotel assistance
Rick Crabb - Ground transportation scheduling
These three Ride Captains will be recruiting and assigning volunteers to assist as we move closer to the event date.
I ask that each of you congratulate the above riders for stepping forward.
Mike Lambert
State Captain
PGR of Texas
I am humbled, honored and appreciative of the opportunity to step up and serve as the North Texas Deputy State Captain. My commitment to my fellow riders will be to promote open communication, address concerns before they become issues, and to share lessons learned on what works and incorporate those lessons as policies. This will be both internal and external to the PGR family.
I have a great appreciation and respect all of the leaders, support personal, and riders. I know that hard work and dedication to our mission will continue at its highest level. Our mission is so important to the families of Fallen American Hero’s. They will soon forget our names and our faces, but they will never forget that we were there to honor their loved ones. Your professionalism and ability to show respect has always been the highlight in every conversation and appreciation letters from these families. You are the best in what you do.
I want to thank each of you for having trust in me and my abilities to serve in this capacity. Our success and continued growth will depend on our teamwork and rider engagement as we continue to move forward. I look forward to working with each of you as we strive to support our mission in the true American spirit. Floyd Kammerer will continue to assist in his current position until we have identified a replacement. Dan Mathys will continue his service as assistant. We all bring something different to the team, and will pull from each other’s strengths to best serve our mission. The importance of your support and feedback will ensure that we stay on track.
Sincerely,
Ken DuBois

"Great Job, Texas" Posted: 10/16/2013 |

As Robert 'Gator' Collins, Patriot Guard Riders National Director of Operations, passed through the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport, he was pleasantly surprised to be greeted by a PGR Flag hanging in a place of honor in Terminal "C".
The flag hangs along side of flags from each branch of the military, POW/MIA, and a Wounded Warrior flag. American Airlines Military Veterans Employee Support Groups hung these flags as a show of honor to the military passengers, their families and Americans who pass through the terminal.
His only words were "Great job, Texas".

Attention All Texas PGR Members. Posted: 10/15/2013 |
The Patriot Guard Riders of Texas were honored during the weekend of Sky Ball to host the
Patriot Guard Riders National Board of Directors. The board members were
here to attend a meeting with representatives of the Snowball Express Board
of Directors.
The Patriot Guard Riders organization has been honored to be chosen to
partner with Snowball Express. Snowball Express is the foundation who
provides new memories to the children who have lost a parent in the gulf
wars. The PGR now joins with American Airlines, Non Commissioned Officer
Association, and with other major groups who stand with and support the
children. The partnerships are not taken lightly; the PGR's history of honor
and respect shown to the families is what moved this organization to the
front of the line.
The Board was welcomed at Sky Ball XI, the largest fund raiser in the
southwest. Sky Ball raises millions to support Wounded Warrior Project,
Snowball Express, and many other support groups for our American Military
heroes.
Last year the Patriot Guard Riders were recognized for their support of our
military and provided with 250 seats at the event. This year, with more
public involvement, those 250 seats were sold at $250 each to help raise
funds for the troops. A limited number of seats were made available to
members of the PGR who participated in a flag line to honor our heroes.
The following PGR board members came from around the country to attend the
meeting, welcomed at Sky Ball XI, and stood honors in the flag line to show
our commitment to those men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice, and
to their families.
George Winslow, President
Bob Stone, VP Captains
Mike Childree, VP Members
Robbie Smart, Secretary (incoming President) Lee Anderson, Treasurer Randy
Stevens, National Communications Officer (incoming VP Captains) Shane Leiser (incoming
Secretary)
Both groups were honored to join together in a partnership that benefit each
other as well as extending honor and love to the Children of Gold Star
families Nationwide.
Those riders who have not had an opportunity to log onto the new Patriot
Guard National WEB Site are encouraged to do so. The board, along with a
small army of volunteers, have spent many hours to bring the WEB site up to
date and make it more user friendly. I recommend you encourage your riders
to Log in and check out all the updated areas.

Come Join Snowball Express and Fellow Patriot Guard Riders for the
Largest Single Patriot Guard Riders Event Nationwide. Posted: 10/15/2013 |
Starting on December 12 through December 16, 2013, Snowball Express VIII will be coming to town.
The mission of Snowball Express is to create hope and new memories for the children of our fallen military heroes who have died while on active duty since 9/11. This event will host over 1800 Gold Star family members and involves Patriot Guard Riders across the nation.
When these children lost a parent in the war, many were required to move out
of base housing or give up their home, their school, and their friends. Moving to a new town is always hard for the children.
In some cases, they are near the base where their hero was stationed. The children not only faced the devastation of losing a parent, many had to move to a new school in which there may be no other children who have lost a parent, so the child feels alone in their grieving.
Patriot Guard Riders across America are at the airports to see the children off. American Airlines supplies the Aircraft and the Snowball Express brings together these children and the parent from around the world and across the Nation at no cost to the families. Flight crews are all volunteers. These are special flights in which the aircraft are decorated for the children.
Law Enforcement provides escort for over 50 busses taking the children around to different events and venues in the Dallas / Fort Worth area. The Patriot Guard Riders provide Flag lines, security, smiles, and interact with the children and their families. There are thousands of volunteers across America that help bring this together.
Well wishers line the streets holding signs and American flags to honor these families who have given so much.
The families are always amazed when the Patriot Guard Riders join with local Law Enforcement to shut down the freeways as they travel.
This is a time of showing not only our honor and respect, but also a time for hugs and smiles.
Patriot Guard Riders who would like to be a part of Snowball Express can go to the North Texas Web Site at www.TXPGR.org and note the postings as they are listed.
In the past, the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders have conducted their normal services during Snowball Express, including services for soldiers Killed in Action and are always prepared to show the honor and respect our fallen heroes deserve.
Come join with the members of the Patriot Guard Riders and show your support and love to these children.

Larry "Rev DT" Key Steps Down As North Texas Deputy State Captain Posted: 10/12/2013 |
Dear Ride Captains and Riders,
I want to thank everyone for everything you do. It is time for Snowball Express 2013 in Dallas. I encourage all of you get involved in this spectacular event. Seeing the looks on the face of the children is heartwarming and emotional. They need each of you to help them to know that they are loved and that the sacrifice their loved one made doesn’t go unnoticed and that their loved one is very important. Planning has already begun for this year’s event, which is from December 12th through the 16th. Please hold these days open for the kids.
I have been involved in the Snowball and other events for almost five years and have enjoyed many great moments with the families of Snowball and with the families of the fallen soldiers.
So it is with heavy heart that I must step down as the Deputy State Captain of the North Texas Region. This is not something that has come easy. With some circumstances beyond my control, I feel it best to step down at this time for the betterment of the NTXPGR. Everyone has been very supportive and I thank you for everything you have done. I encourage you to give the new leadership the same respect and support that you gave me and my leadership team.
I will continue to be at missions standing tall and silent for our heroes. I will see you on the line.

North Texas Region Leadership Changes
North Texas Patriot Guard Ride Captains:
Ride Captains - Save the date and time. On 19 October at 10 am - there will be a very important meeting for all active North Texas Region Ride Captains. The location will be announced within the next few days.
All North Texas Patriot Guard Members:
As we move forward in an ever growing environment of service to our soldiers, veterans, and their families, we task our members more and more.
No one can be expected to stand the flag line, serve as a part of the leadership team or serve as a support person forever. We honor the service of all the men and women who stand with us to honor our nation's heroes.
From time to time our leadership teams change but our goals and our mission keeps moving forward.
There has been a change in the leadership of North Texas; other member of the region have stepped up to serve as an interim leadership team until a new DSC and his team are assigned. From the members perspective, there will be no visible changes to the way we conduct our missions.
There is a team that has now been assigned to work hand in hand with the Snowball Express Planning Board for the 2013 SBE event.
This year's Snowball Express is going to be bigger with more children being treated to more smiles and waves from the DFW community. Lots of great events are planned.

State Captain
Patriot Guard Riders of Texas
Due to life circumstances for the past several months, I’ve been unable to devote the necessary amount of time needed to properly perform the duties of a Ride Captain, let alone, the duties of an Assistant Deputy State Captain. For that reason, I’m stepping down from both positions and assuming the most important position in the PGR...that of a rider on the flag line. I’ve participated in over 400 missions since I joined the PGR. Some of the most rewarding experiences of my life are a result of my participation in those missions. It always has been and always will be an honor to stand tall and silent with all of you. I want to thank the leadership of the North Texas PGR, both past and present, for all the support I’ve been given since day one. And to the many riders that I’m proud to call friend, I thank you for what you do. God bless the Patriot Guard Riders, wherever they ride and wherever they stand.
With Respect
Mike "Hawkeye" Upchurch
It is with deep regret that I must relinquish my duties effective
immediately as a Ride Captain of the North Texas Patriot Guard
Riders. A situation beyond my control has affected my
commitment as a Ride Captain for the NTPGR.
I appreciate all the help I have received from fellow Ride Captains,
ADSC's and the DSC. More importantly is the response and support
from the PGR members that stand the line for the most important
aspect of what we do. I look forward to rejoining you on the line,
standing tall and silent.
Gary "Doc Trot" Trotter
As you are aware, due to family commitments, I have had very limited availability to serve as a Ride Captain. I have tried to help as needed at the missions that I have attended, but that is not the commitment that is necessary to serve as a Ride Captain. I therefore am stepping down as a Ride Captain and returning to the Flag Line where I truly belong. I deeply appreciate the opportunity that has been afforded me to serve as a "Red Hat" for our families.
Thank you for your friendship and help over the years. I will see you in the Flag Line.
Respectfully,
Bill Holcomb
Updated Patriot Guard Rider Mission Statement
Posted: 07/19/2013 |
68.57% of the Regional Captains and State
Captains voted in favor of making the change. It was approved by
the Board of Directors and Gator has been instructed to make the
necessary changes.
Mission
Statement:
"The Patriot
Guard Riders is a 100% Volunteer, Federally registered 501(c)3
non-profit organization which ensures dignity and respect at memorial
services honoring Fallen Military Heroes, First Responders and
Honorably Discharged Veterans."
Vision
Statement:
The Patriot
Guard Riders is a diverse amalgamation of riders from across the
nation. We have one thing in common besides motorcycles. We have an
unwavering respect for those who risk their very lives for America’s
freedom and security including Fallen Military Heroes, First
Responders and Honorably Discharged Veterans. If you share this
respect, please join us.
We don’t care
what you ride or if you ride, what your political views are, or
whether you’re a hawk or a dove. It is not a requirement that you be a
veteran. It doesn't matter where you’re from or what your income is;
you don’t even have to ride. The only prerequisite is Respect.
Our main
mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as
invited guests of the family. Each mission we undertake has two
basic objectives:
- Show our
sincere respect for our fallen heroes, their families, and their
communities.
- Shield the
mourning family and their friends from interruptions created by
any protestor or group of protestors.
We accomplish
the latter through strictly legal and non-violent means.
To those of you
who are currently serving and fighting for the freedoms of others, at
home and abroad, please know that we are backing you. We honor
and support you with every mission we carry out, and we are praying
for a safe return home for all.
Thank you to everyone who participated in
this process. The comments that were left and the guidance was
greatly appreciated by the Board of Directors. I hope that this
helps reduce the emails a State Captain receives when a tragedy occurs
in their state.

Happy New Year
North Texas Patriot Guard Riders
Posted - 01/03/2013
|
I cannot tell you how excited I am of the future possibilities in our region. As most of you know, we are one of the busiest regions in Texas and around the nation. We completed over 400 missions in the year 2012, in our region alone. That is by far an awesome task. It was only possible by the dedication, commitment and volunteer spirit of each of the members of the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders. This New Year is already shaping up to be as busy if not busier. We, The Leadership Team would like to encourage each member to take it to the next level. We can only do the missions when volunteers show up to stand a flag line or participate in a procession. So we are encouraging each of you to try and attend just one more mission this year, than you attended in 2012. If you can make a commitment to do that this year, we will once again meet our needs on every mission. Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying. It is not about the numbers, it never has been. It’s about showing the families who have lost a loved one, a hero, that there are people out there that care. It’s about showing respect to the honoree and the family. Without volunteers, we cannot support the families. There is nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer. Each of you has proven that time and time again as you have shown your RESPECT for these hero’s and their families.
I know most of you work and have jobs during the week. Some of you are in a position where you can attend missions on a regular basis. We have over two thousand registered Patriot Guard Riders in North Texas. All we ask is for you to make every effort to attend at least one more mission than you did last year. Remember what it feels like when you are standing a flag line and a wife or mother comes around, and wants to thank you for being there, and they can’t speak because they are so overwhelmed with emotions. They can’t believe you came out to honor their loved one, their hero. They see us standing a flag line or they see us leading the procession as we take their soldier on his final journey home. We are out there because it is what we do, and it is the right thing to do.
I want to remind you, “ The Patriot Guard Riders, Inc.” is the only organization that does what we do. No other organization in the world honors and respects our soldiers the way we do. That makes us the very best at honoring our fallen, our hero’s and taking care of the families. Nowhere in this entire world can we offer so little (standing a flag line) and make such an awesome difference in families lives and at the same time honor our soldiers for making it possible to stand that flag line.
I look forward to seeing each and every one of you this year as we continue to show our RESPECT for our soldiers, our hero’s and their precious families. Billy Graham stated, “Having faith makes one an optimist, having no faith makes you a pessimist.” I am an optimist, and I believe in you, the members of the PGR of North Texas.
Just a reminder the suggestion box is open until January 31, 2013. After that suggestions will be taken and handled as they come in.
Please join the leadership Team of North Texas Patriot Guard Riders as we choose to make a difference in 2013. Help us to make this year an awesome year as we continue to stand in the shadows and honor our soldiers and their family’s, one mission at a time.

A Message From The Next Texas State Captain
Posted - 12/17/2012
|
The Leadership in Texas is changing on January 1, 2013, those who have been with the Patriot Guard Riders for the past few years have been privileged to have had the opportunity to watch the PGR grow under the leadership of Teresa Galloway. Teresa's dedication to the honor and respect of this nations fallen has been reflected in the outstanding reputation gained by the PGR of Texas under her guidance. Leading by example is a tough road to follow yet she has never passed up the opportunity to raise the bar for herself and she expected nothing less of those who are in the leadership positions as Regional Deputy State Captains for the State of Texas. Teresa will continue to serve as a Ride Captain in West Texas but will also be stepping up to lend her skills to a five State area as the Regional Ride Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders.
In assuming the responsibility as the Texas State Captain, I have my first request and that is to ask each of you for your help in moving the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas forward and growing the ranks. It has become impossible to move around the State of Texas without hearing "thank you'" and being told how impressed people are with the honor and respect each of you show to the fallen heroes of this state and this nation.
The American people are waking up to the fact that less than one percent of this nation guarantees freedom for the other ninety-nine percent. Our freedom is not guaranteed by the President, the Congress or your local police, not even your church can guarantee your freedom of religion.
Our everyday freedoms are only guaranteed by a small percentage of this nation and that group is the United State Military.
We rise up in the morning, get dressed without thinking about those men and women who also rise up in the morning, put on their body armor and go into harms way to protect our everyday freedom.
Each of you as Patriot Guard Riders stand as an example for the communities and the nation to follow in demonstrating how to show Honor and Respect to those who protect our way of life.
When people look back at the Vietnam War, they remember the protesters disrespecting those who wore the uniform of this nation. History will show that when people look back at the War on terrorism, they will remember those men and women who stood up with an American flag in hand and honored our warriors. Each day, you write on the pages of history by doing what you do.
In the past, one of the major complaints across the state was that some riders felt they knew very little about the person who was serving as their State Captain. At the end of this intro letter you will find a short Bio and my personal contact information and also information about the new Assistant State Captain for the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas. Having had the opportunity to work closely with this gentleman on several occasions, I hold a great deal of respect for his ability.
The PGR is in many respects just like most volunteer organizations, people are people and sometimes individuals feel a need to buck the system. Having had the opportunity to serve as the Assistant State Captain working with Teresa, I have seen and worked through these type of issues. In most cases it appears to come from those who are relatively new to the PGR and feel they know just how it should work and the other 300,000 members have not figured it out as yet.
If an individual has a problem, it is a problem and does need to be addressed. I would ask that you use the established leadership chain, keep in mind that as adults we need to handle personality problems face to face, like adults. If you need to bring it to me please do. I would ask that you first ask yourself "what does this have to do with honoring a soldier", if the answers is "nothing”, then it may not be a PGR issue, but something you may need to take up with your family Chaplin. If you give me a problem, give me a viable solution. (If you can't, your part of the problem).
Each riders is familiar with our Mission Guidelines, if not, look them up.
Those who know me, know just how strong I feel concerning the fact that our missions are never about individual riders, it's not about the motorcycles and it is not about the Patriot Guard Riders as an Organization, it's about Honor and Respect for this Nations Fallen Heroes.
The Patriot Guard Rider Organization differed from other organizations in that when you step up in leadership you are stepping up to a higher level of servitude. It becomes your responsibility to serve those riders who stand the flag line, they are not there to serve you or be commanded by you. There is a major difference between leadership and command. The military uses command and we use leadership. People will always follow leaders and good leaders lead by example.
The Ride Captain assigned to a mission, was made a Ride Captain because of faith in his or her ability to handle the task. All PGR members should be in the flag line unless assigned a separate task by the Ride Captain assigned to that particular mission. Standing the flag line is where honor is given.
I look forward to working closely with the Regional Deputy State Captains and serving the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas.
Respectfully,
Mike "Gunner" Lambert

Assistant State Captain Introduction
Bobby “KawaBob” Stroka out of the Southeast Texas Region.
Originally from West Texas - Odessa to be exact (GO MOJO for those that know the area). I moved to the Houston area 22 years ago to start a new job figuring I would only stay here about a year or two, but the place kind of grows on you.
I have two great kids, both in college now - one is at Texas Tech, and the other is going to Lone Star here locally.
I Joined the Patriot Guard Riders to Honor my nephew who was serving his first tour as an Army Ranger in Iraq. Thankfully he returned home about 2 years ago safe and sound.
My very first mission was a KIA arrival at Hobby Airport. Not knowing what to expect, I was in awe with the turn out and support that was given to the family. I knew then that this was the right thing to do.
I am truly honored to be asked to assist Mike Lambert as the Assistant State Captain and look forward to continuing the work of the Patriot Guard Riders throughout the great State of Texas.
I appreciate this opportunity to serve the men and women of the Patriot Guard Riders of Texas.

As most of you know I will stepping down as the Texas State Captain on Jan. 1, 2013. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve this state. I could not have done it without all the DSC's great leadership qualities. You made my position much easier.
I want to Thank each and everyone of you for doing an awesome job. You all have become my family and friends and I will always be there for each and everyone.
Mike Lambert will become your new State Captain. Mike & I have worked together these past 2 years on many issues for this state. He is very qualified for this position. I can not say enough good things about my right hand man.
I will not be going just back to the flag line, I will once again be standing by my husband's side as DSC for West Texas. Also I will become the new South Central Regional Captain.
Once again Thank You for job well done.

Congratulations goes out to
Steve Hirtzel. One of the great undiscovered joys of life comes
from doing everything one attempts, and to do the best of one’s ability in
creating that joy. You have certainly succeeded in everything you
approached during your term as Deputy State Captain. Your expertise
and organization skills are second to none in serving the Patriot Guard
Riders and, especially in putting Snow Ball Express together for the past
three years. I ask everyone to join me, in thanking Steve for
everything he has done for the PGR, and wish him and his family the very
best in the future. It has been a real pleasure to serve
with him.
I personally want to thank
Steve for his confidence in me in naming me the Deputy State Captain for the
North Texas region, effective today December 16th.
With humble heart, I accept the position and will
strive to serve as respectfully and honorably as I can.
Thank you Steve for everything you have done for me. I
will strive to take what you have started and build upon it, and take it to
the next level.
As we enter into a new year,
there will be many leadership changes within the North Texas Patriot Guard
Riders leadership team. I am excited to see how a new
leadership team can take the North Texas region to the next level.
As we move into the New Year, we will be continuing what has worked
in the past and add whatever is necessary to take our involvement with
soldiers and their families to that next level.
I have asked Mike “Hawkeye”
Upchurch and Rusty “The Scot” McNab to step up and take on the
responsibilities of Assistant Deputy State Captain. Floyd “1st
Shirt” Kammerer has stepped up as Chief Ride Captain for the Support Team.
Dan “Mad Russian” Mathys will step up as Chief Ride Captain handling
recruiting, public relations, training, and administration duties.
In the next few weeks and
months, I will be outlining goals and strategy for what we will strive for
in the upcoming year. The one thing I want everyone to
remember is we are a team in the North Texas Region. We
are here for the fallen and their families. Goals,
strategy, and most importantly decisions will be made based on safety, the
fallen hero’s, and their families. If any of you as riders or
a ride captain would like to see some changes made, then please submit those
to me by JANUARY 31, 2013.
The team and myself will take
a look at each suggestion individually. If it makes sense
and will go along with our mission statement, then it will be considered.
Everything we do must enhance our mission statement.
I am truly excited about the
upcoming year. The possibilities are unending.
It is my prayer that we (NTXPGR) make this the best year yet.
Happy Holidays

Floyd,
I cannot put into words the deepest appreciation and respect I have for you. Your support to me and all the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders as the Assistant Deputy State Captain has been outstanding. Our friendship over the past 6 years has meant so much to me, and I know it will continue for years. As the new Deputy State Captain and Assistants are identified I will recommend that they reach out to you for your knowledge, experience and advice on what it takes to have the North Texas Region continue to move forward.
On behalf of all Texas Patriot Guard Riders “Thank You”. To have you stand the flag line with us will add to the Honor and Respect that we give.
Sincerely,
Steve “Ghost” Hirtzel
North Texas Deputy State Captain
Patriot Guard Riders
The time has come after three wonderful years for me to conclude my service and pass “the tan hat” to another worthy PGR member. The effective date is November 27, 2012. With my resignation as the Assistant Deputy State Captain comes my deep appreciation to you and all the PGR leadership and riders for providing me with this opportunity to serve the North Texas PGR. It has been the highest honor to serve in a PGR leadership position.
The men and women that make up the PGR are ultimate patriots. Their love for this country, its military and first responders has and will always make me proud to have served by their side. It has been my privilege to work with the Texas and North Texas PGR leadership. The direction provided by all of you is an example for all of us to follow.
I wish that there were some form of recognition for all of the leaders that have given so selflessly of their money, time, and support to all of us riders. I am in a continual state of awe for the Ride Captains who selflessly throw their hearts and minds into providing unwavering respect, kindness, and dignity to those families whose loved ones have paid the ultimate price.
Whether it’s attending funerals, greeting troops returning from overseas, attending deployment ceremonies, or supporting kids with the Snowball Express missions, the PGR riders are always there, regardless of the location or weather conditions. Those that ride are steadfast in their support, have impeccable character, and are determined at heart and in all they do. These traits have made them all my heroes. It has been a privilege to be a part of such a wonderful patriotic group of people whose love for country is worn on their sleeves every day for all the country to see.
Although I am resigning my leadership position with the PGR, know that it is with great pride that I will now don a blue hat, and take my place standing the flag line with all those patriots who have been my heroes for the past three years. Much like Lou Gehrig, I consider myself to be the luckiest man in the world for knowing all of you, and I am certainly blessed with your friendship. And as for my tan hat, there are many people who are younger and more capable than I. They can and will not only wear it with pride as I did, but make it better, of that I am sure.
Now as my friend would say: Mission Complete, and on to the next assignment.
Sincerely:
Floyd "1 Sgt." Kammerer

Steve Hirtzel Stepping Down as the North Texas Deputy State Captain

Team,
This letter is to inform you that
by December 15, 2012
I will be stepping down as the North Texas Region Deputy State Captain. I
am finalizing actions I have taken on in this role and will complete my
commitment on managing the 2012 Snowball Express as the Patriot Guard Riders
operations coordinator. Also, it gives the Texas leadership time to identify and
appoint the next Deputy State Captain making for a seamless transition.
I have greatly appreciated
this opportunity to be a part of the Patriot Guard Riders leadership team and an
organization whose dedication and respect remains the number one priority in
honoring our American Fallen Hero’s and their families. I am grateful to Teresa
Galloway and Mike Lambert for having confidence in me to be part of the Texas
leadership team and for their guidance. It has been a wonderful experience that
I will never forget. I have met the most amazing people from Patriot Guard
Riders, Snowball Express, Law enforcement and Military.
Being the Deputy State
Captain of the North Texas Region has allowed me to look at each mission a
different way. I would like to share some of my observations:
No one stands exactly where
Walter stood at the DFW shelters.
When we are blessed to have
the Liberty Bell at a mission - The sound of the bell makes you think of someone
special past or present.
When you attend a funeral
service for a fellow rider you realize how short life is, and we should focus
more on the things that are important, and ways to better help one another.
When you stand tall honoring
an American Hero during the playing of taps
all is silent.
The placement of flags is
so important, for it is
those flags the family will remember when coming around that corner.
A true Patriot Guard Rider treats others with respect and integrity
without expecting anything in return and is willing to be there rain or shine,
placing differences aside.
A rider will stand for a
veteran even when they themselves are hurting.
A rider does not mind if
someone see’s their tears.
What it means when a family
member comes to a rider with a broken heart and thanks them for their respect
and honor they gave so their loved one will not be forgotten.
I would like to thank the Assistant Deputy State Captains Larry Key and
Floyd Kammerer for getting missions assigned,
their hard
work and "Can Do Attitude". I also want to thank
the ride captains who lead those missions
supporting the family’s request, and to all the riders who make up the PGR -
Outstanding job!
I especially thank Harold
Tranter. Without his dedication for managing
the PGR Web site it would be impossible for us to communicate to the riders and families. I
have never met anyone more committed than Harold.
To Erna (PGR store) and all
the support vehicles, the folks taking photo's and video's you are a critical
element of mission success - Thank You!
Lil and I see the Patriot Guard Riders as our Texas family and you made us
feel welcome as we honor American Hero’s. Standing the flag line is the most
important job as a Patriot Guard Rider, and Lil and I are
honored to stand with each of you.
God Bless you all for what you do
Sincerely,

Thank you all for having trust in me to serve as the North Texas Deputy State Captain. Our success continues through teamwork and rider engagement
"We are in this together". I appreciate this opportunity to serve the North Texas region.
I have a great appreciation and respect for Mike Lambert’s leadership as the Deputy State Captain. Mike’s hard work and dedication has set the standard high for others to follow. I look forward to working with both Mike Lambert and Teresa Galloway as we take the PGR to the next level.

I will promote open communication to address concerns before they become issues and to share lessons learned on what works well that we should implement as policy. It will be our goal to recognize those who go that extra step in supporting the PGR. This will be both internal and external to the PGR family.
As being a Safety professional for more than 30 years there will be no exceptions when it comes to rider and cage safety. Safety is everyone’s responsibility and we will work together to build an environment where we are all comfortable addressing safety concerns with each other to show that
"We Care".
Our mission is so important to the families of Fallen American Hero’s. They will soon forget our names and then our faces, but they will never forget that we were there to honor their loved ones. Your
"Can Do Attitude", professionalism and show of respect has always been the highlight in every conversation and appreciation letters. You are the best in what you do.
Please join me in congratulating Floyd Kammerer and Larry Key as the Assistant Deputy State Captains. Their dedication, years of experience, commitment to serve makes them vital members of the PGR and the perfect pick for this job. We all bring something different to the team, and will pull from each other’s strengths to best serve you. You have our word, but we will need your support and feedback to ensure that we stay on track.
I have always been a student of watching others. The PGR riders and leadership team have taught me how to be a better person and leader. Their dedication, hard work, love for country and the continuous support of military families is not something you could read, or have someone tell you about
- You would have to stand the flag line to understand why we do what we do. It is my honor to stand with each of you, the most amazing people I have every met.
You have truly become a Texas family for Lil and I.
Sincerely,
Steve "Ghost" Hirtzel

I have had the honor to have served as the Deputy State Captain for the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders for the past two years. The North Texas Patriot Guard Riders is such a unique organization, the job that each of you do, the honor that you show and the exceedingly large amount of talent within the group sets a higher standard for all.
I will be stepping aside as the DSC for the North Texas Region which will allow me the opportunity to direct more of my efforts in my capacity as Assistant State Captain for the Texas Patriot Guard Riders.
I will not be leaving the area and hope to continue to serve as a Ride Captain for missions in the North Texas area.
My life has been blessed by having had the privilege of working with each member of the Patriot Guard, the many friends that I have made and the exceptional people I have had occasions to come into contact with. I often stand in amazement to see you ladies and gentlemen raise the bar of honor, respect and professionalism time and time again.
Ralph Waldo Emerson one said: A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.
I know in my heart that the extra minutes do not have to be spent on the battle field to show a hero. I have seen each of you giving those minutes while standing the flag line in the freezing snow, the pouring rain and under a brutal Texas summer sun.
To have been blessed to stand shoulder to shoulder with so many heroes is a moment in life I will cherish forever. You as Patriot Guard Riders are not only heroes to the family and friends of the fallen soldiers but also to those men and women who stand beside you.
I have consulted with the State Captain and the North Texas Region Ride Captains concerning the rider who will step into the leadership position and all have shown a great deal of confidence in the newest North Texas DSC. Steve
"Ghost" Hirtzel will be stepping up as the new Deputy State Captain for the North Texas Region of the Patriot Guard Riders, effective 1 October. Steve is a very analytical person and possesses the skills needed to help move the PGR forward. The State Captain and I both have the upmost confidence in Steve and we look forward to working with he and his leadership team.
Very Respectfully,

If You Want To Protest The Protestors, Do Not Represent Yourself As A Patriot Guard Rider
09/18/2011
|
|
Information has been circling among the riders concerning an internet site called
"Journey 4 Justice". The purpose of this group is to express their right of free
speech, directed solely at the protesters who appear at military funerals and
directly at the protesters headquarters in Topeka, Kansas.
The reasoning behind the protesters directing their message of hatred to the Funerals of this Nations fallen soldier’s is done strictly for media attention. The brave men and women of our Armed Services and their families have done nothing wrong and are not deserving of the dishonor paid by the Kansas group. By appearing before the media in an attempt to gain attention to their cause, they felt they had found a soft target to get the most media attention from.
You men and women of the Patriot Guard Riders understand this effort more than most citizens. That is the reason the Texas Patriot Guard Riders do not waist the energy to even acknowledge the presence of these protesters. Confronting the protesters only aids in their attempt to gain a spot on the evening news. There are journalists in this country who operate under the assumption that
"if it bleeds, it reads" and therefore it sells.
Everyone is aware of the fact that these are attorneys who could care less about honoring and respecting our Nation’s fallen heroes but they do know how to use the system to gain attention to their cause.
Having expressed the above information, the Leadership of the Texas Patriot Guard would like to remind the members of the Texas Patriot Guard Riders that the Patriot Guard is not a protest group, nor is it a counter protest group. We have a mission and a mission statement which is near and dear to all of us.
Any individual who feels they must attend any of the protests in Kansas are encouraged to follow your heart. Please remember that to protest in front of or near the headquarters of those people that we refer to as
"Un-invited Guests" would only aid their efforts to gain media attention.
The wearing of Patriot Guard Rider Patches, decals, or flags at a protest which stems to serve the mission and efforts of these
"un-invited guests" would be in direct conflict with the Patriot Guard Riders Mission Statement.
Any member of the Texas Patriot Guard Riders who are found to be wearing PGR gear, patches, flags or decals while attending these protest will be asked to step down as a member of the Patriot Guard Riders.
This is in no way an attempt to infringe on anyone’s right to
"freedom of speech," it is merely an attempt to communicate the fact that the reputation of the Patriot Guard Riders, the honor and the respect of the community, will not be infringed upon or sacrificed by any member whose actions could be construed as aiding those
"un-invited guests" in their attempt to gain attention.
We are all adults and, as such, are held responsible for our
own actions, so please do what you feel you need to do in this matter, but do not do it at the sacrifice of the respect and reputation of the Patriot Guard Riders who are here to show honor and respect.
Very Respectfully,

Texas State Captain Stepping Down; Others Stepping UP!

On December 1, 2010, Teresa Galloway will step up to her new position of leadership as the New Texas Patriot Guard Riders State Captain. Teresa has served in the position of Assistant State Captain under the leadership of Lou Freitas and has proven herself time and again. I have been asked by Teresa to fill the position of Assistant State Captain. I am looking forward to working with Teresa and others PGR members around the state.
Mike "Gunner" Lambert Deputy State Captain
North Texas PGR
It is with heartfelt emotions that I will be stepping down as your Texas State Captain effective November 30, 2010 and returning to the Flag Line. When I talked with you all last month, it was my intentions to step down at the end of October but it couldn't happen due to some paper work on my end that needed to be completed.
During my time as the State Captain I have found Friends and a group of super dedicated people honoring our Military and their Families. It was an Honor representing and working with you all and I hope we can continue to stay in touch.
As I stated in our phone conversations, Teresa Galloway the Assistant State Captain will be stepping up to take the position of Texas PGR State Captain. Teresa comes to us with all the right credentials to represent the Texas PGR and her dedication towards our Military and their Families is unquestionable.
Thank you for your continued dedication to the Patriot Guard Riders, and its’ Mission.

Organization Announcement - Effective 10/01/2010
Texas Patriot Guard Riders
North Region
Assistant Deputy State Captain
One year ago Dewey Dyer stepped up and accepted the position as the Assistant Deputy State Captain for the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders. Dewey has requested that he be allowed to step down from this position and step back up as a Senior Ride Captain for North Texas. Over the past year Dewey has unselfishly shared his time, expertise and knowledge of the Patriot Guard mission with each of us. In the span of a year he has not only served in this capacity but also served as a Senior Ride Captain for numerous missions and special events in direct support to honor the service members and veterans of this country. His time has taken him away from his family, his work and his private life. I ask that you join me in Congratulating Dewey Dyer on a
"Job Well Done" and the giving of a heartfelt
"Thank you" to his wife Kriss and his family for allowing us to share his time.
Floyd
"1st Shirt"
Kammerer has been asked to step up to fill this position. Those of you who have attended missions in North Texas over the past few years are familiar with the time and effort put forth by Floyd. His dedication to the mission of the Patriot Guard is second to none. The ride name of
"first Shirt" comes from the fact that Floyd was a
"Top"
sergeant in the Air Force prior to retirement. Floyd's time and efforts are shared and supported by his wife Nancy. I ask that you join me in Congratulating Floyd Kammerer as the newly assigned Assistant Deputy State Captain for the North Texas region of the Patriot Guard Riders.
